Channeling the Age of Technology

October 11, 2018 by Don Kuhl

Aging Friday

My family got our first TV when I was about seven.

It had a knob to change channels. There were three choices.

Often the screen looked snowy, with wavy lines moving from top to bottom.

My father, Vern, bought rabbit ears and moved them all around. The fuzzy snow and wavy lines persisted.

Nothing worked, and Vern said words he did not want me to hear.

Many, many years later I have a brand-new TV with over 60 channels to choose from.

Last night, during a crucial football game, the whole screen went dark: no fuzzy snow, no wavy lines, no rabbit ears to play with.

Alone, in the dark, I repeated the words my father said long ago.

Did I mention my TV has over 60 channels?
