A poem

April 9, 2019 by Don Kuhl

I’m so sorry, but I’m sending you a poem. Very few people really read and enjoy poems, but this one I wrote many years ago helped me age out of my stupidity.

Showdown

Rigorous Honesty
dressed in white,
sun at his back,
rode into town.

My gang
took cover
in the wasted crannies of my mind.

False Pride
strutted on the rooftop.

Fear
hid under a wagon.

Procrastination
lingered by the saloon.

Deception
looked unarmed
but wasn’t.

Guns blazed.
Good prevailed.

My life changed.
Rigorous Honesty
saved my town.

That’s my poem. I promise you I’ll never send you another one.
