Friendship

September 24, 2019 by Don Kuhl

Rarely do people ask me for advice.

But two weeks ago, at a meeting with young business men and women in Reno, I was asked to share one thing I would do differently over the last 30 years.

Since this was a rare occasion, I didn’t want to mess up my answer. So I pondered the question for a few moments.

Then I said something close to this: “I’d find ways to keep my true friends attached to me forever.”

They may have wanted something more profound, but that’s what they got.

Why?

I’ve squandered a few true friends who were loyal and honest and brought me joy and peace. Often the losses were caused by a move to another city, a change in careers or a silly disagreement over insignificant matters.

Now, in my mid-seventies, I realize there are few things more precious than people who are kind and patient enough to discover the genuine me and fully accept what they see.
