Slinky

April 28, 2020 by Don Kuhl

One of the greatest inventions of all time is the Slinky. Richard James must have been a fun guy. He invented my favorite toy back in the 1940s.

This morning, after completing a few stretching exercises, I’m at the top of the stairs. Next to me, ready for competition, is Waldo, my Slinky.

The winner is whoever can get down the stairs first.

Years ago, I beat Waldo all the time. I’d be waiting for Waldo at the bottom of the stairs as he lackadaisically slinked along.

Either Waldo has picked up his game, or, surprisingly, I’m a tad bit slower.

While safely clutching the handrail, I say, “Ready… set…” – and I take off while Waldo is waiting for my “…go.”

I’m not cheating. I just want to win.

Waldo passes me on the sixth stair.
