Peaceful perspective

June 2, 2020 by Don Kuhl

These are scary times, no matter how old you happen to be.

Last weekend, I saw one of my favorite cities out of control. I saw enraged clusters of protesters attempting to bring attention to legitimate national injustices. I saw people breaking windows and stealing bottles of whiskey, television sets and computers. I saw a post office and a police station burning.

As television networks attempted to go from one city to another to display the scenes of greatest destruction, I shut off my television, closed my computer, put my phone on mute and sat in darkness on my back porch with my dogs.

I focused my mind on all the good and gifted people I know. I thought how fortunate I’ve been to work in our 50 states and engage with friends of all economic, political and racial backgrounds. I’ve witnessed kindness, generosity and compassion during challenging circumstances.

I gently patted Nigel and Sammy in their favorite spots. “It’s okay, boys. Love will win out.”
