Washing wars

February 9, 2021 by Don Kuhl

I do a lot of dishes at our house. I’m pretty good at it.

However, once in a while, when Sherry gets bothered by some little misstep by me, she takes a water glass down from the cupboard and examines it by the sunlight coming through our kitchen window.

Anyone experienced at dishwashing and drying knows there is no way a delicate water glass will be spotless when carefully examined in such a fashion.

Without saying a word, Sherry takes all the glasses out of the cupboard, fills the sink with hot, sudsy water and meticulously washes and dries each piece of glassware before putting them back in the cupboard.

I’m nervous. Is there a lecture to follow? I pretend I’m making an important phone call, hoping she won’t hear the recorded Walmart message.

Some people may accuse me of cowardice.

I may not be spotless, but I’m a happy married man.
