Full circle

January 11, 2022 by Don Kuhl

Guess what? I believe I’m going full circle from old man to little kid.

Do you want proof just from today?

When I was seven, Sister Mary Theresa made me and the other second graders lay our heads down on our desks for a 15-minute afternoon nap. This afternoon, I was working on a journal and, without any demand, laid my head down on my desk for exactly a 15-minute nap.

When I was a young kid, I had a tough time unlocking the knot in my shoe strings. Often, when no one was watching, I’d let out a bad word. This morning, the knot in my tennis shoe laces was driving me nuts. I didn’t care who was in listening range. I let out that same naughty word.

When I was eight and “starving to death,” I asked my mother what I could eat. “Fix yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,” she would say. Late this afternoon, I thought Sherry might have a special treat hidden away for me somewhere. Nope. I fixed myself a peanut butter and blackberry jelly sandwich without even being told.

Over all, my life was pretty great when I was a little kid.

By golly, it’s still super today.
