Cloudy days

July 14, 2022 by Don Kuhl

Sometimes skies are cloudy. Many factors may invade our happiness. I have friends and relatives who seem to be experiencing dark skies today. Some of their clouds are health related. Others are caused by fractured relationships, financial hardships or a vague depressive state that has no easy explanation.

I wonder, as a friend, how can I best help?

I’m no expert in this area. I’d appreciate your recommendations.

This is what I’m doing:

I’m giving my friends lots of room to share what they choose to share. I try not to intrude. I’m like a friendly dog sitting at their side saying, “I’m here. If you want a hug, feel free.”

I’m talking very little and listening a whole bunch.

If they appreciate comforting touch,  I hold their hand. I give them a hug.

I don’t say, ”This too will pass.” I don’t know enough to say that.

I do find myself stumbling for words. I want to say it’s okay to feel gloomy.

But who am I to even go that far?

Help.
