I have a new friend. I met him in prison. Recently, we were both doing work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, helping inmates find purpose in their lives. Mark was bringing it through music. I was teaching them to journal.
Mark Collie was a big name as a country singer, writer and film star back a couple decades ago. I don’t recall what I was doing.
Mark is having a huge revival playing a sheriff in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, an upcoming TV series starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm and young film stars I’ve never heard of. Mark’s also doing a bunch of big entertainment stuff I can’t talk about. Meanwhile, I’m busy playing with my dogs and pulling up foxtails.
We both have a couple things in common: messing up a bit in our early years, and today, wanting to make this world a better place.
Mark is breaking away from all the glamour stuff to come to Carson City to be a storyteller at our CONNECTIONS event on May 16. He will talk and sing about how music brings people together. I can’t wait to watch people smile and laugh with Mark.
He doesn’t have to come all this way to help me. But isn’t that what true friends do?
