A tiny bowl of pepper

August 12, 2021 by Don Kuhl

I have a favorite place to eat in Carson City: Glen Eagles. The restaurant closed for a period of time due to COVID and then reopened with all sorts of modifications. One of them was replacing the salt and pepper shakers with little paper packets. I love pepper but hate the packets. I’d tear the little devils open in the wrong place and spray pepper all over the table.

My favorite waitress began providing me with a tiny bowl of pepper, just perfect to generously sprinkle over my food. On evenings when I am deciding where to dine, my tiny bowl of pepper wins out every time.

As a smart old guy, this got me thinking. When are the times I can provide a tiny bowl of pepper to make life happier for those I care about? Of course, it will not actually be a tiny bowl of pepper, but maybe a weekly scheduled ride to the grocery store or a personal phone call at noon each Sunday.

Tiny things count in big ways. I need to do a better job of sprinkling them on people I love.
