September 24, 2020 by Don Kuhl

My friend and colleague Alyssa Forcehimes writes a thoughtful and joyous blog, Leading With Heart, every Thursday.

Last week, she wrote about the intellectual humility of children – they are unabashedly open in declaring, “I don’t know.”

Alyssa contrasted this with adults, who find it hard to say the same words. Grown-ups feel obligated to come up with an answer – something, anything.

I have a third answer for us, the beautiful aging population.

Now, when I’m put on the spot to respond to a challenging question, I look the inquisitor straight in the eye. My answer reflects the honesty of my childhood and puts to rest the false pride of my adult years.

I boldly say, “I don’t remember.”
