Brevity is the soul of wit

May 19, 2025 by Don Kuhl

I try to follow Shakespeare’s advice when writing this blog. But darn, that’s a hard order for me to follow.

Adjectives and adverbs can look so delectable. They can dress up a boring  sentence to make it appear to be a bigger deal than what it is. I get sucked in by thinking I’m adding color and depth when selecting the right noun or verb can do a better job.

When I write, I can get off on a tangent that doesn’t add to the story. The reader often gets lost in the added chatter and may lose interest in the key message.

Sometimes I feel the need to explain stuff that should be left to the imagination of the reader.

My posts that receive the most favorable responses are often the briefest.

I will stop now.
