Letting go

May 5, 2022 by Don Kuhl

Part of my growing old is accepting the loss of stuff I believed would be mine for my lifetime. It’s not that I gave it much thought – I just took it for granted.

I thought when my family would go out to dinner, I’d choose the restaurant. And of course, I would drive.

I thought if a wheelbarrow needed to be pushed to the garden, I’d be the one doing the pushing.

I thought I’d be the one graciously opening doors for women and older people.

I thought people would ask for my advice and really want to hear what I had to say.

I thought my grocery cart would weave around the slower shoppers in the cereal aisle.

I thought I’d be giving strokes to my golfing buddies.

I thought my cell phone would ring more often (spam calls don’t count).

I thought this list would reach its end by now. It hasn’t.

What’s your list look like?
