Photo shoot

August 13, 2020 by Don Kuhl

Every four years or so, I’m invited to do a photo shoot at the Department of Motor Vehicles. I believe they fly in a professional photographer from one of those studios in Los Angeles to make certain they capture my total essence.

I thought the COVID-19 lockdown might discourage the power brokers from bringing in the best, but sure enough, last week I showed up at the DMV and there was supermodel photographer Wilma Fairbanks. After Joe Easton gave me a vision test and asked me a few questions, I was royally escorted over to Wilma’s studio.

She told me to stand on this special taped line on the floor and look straight into the camera.

“Should I give it my famous smile?” I inquired.

“Just stand still and quit squinting,” Wilma replied playfully.

I heard a click and saw the flash. Magic was in the air.

Eight days later, I received the final photographic masterpiece in the mail. My portrait even included my height, my weight and an encouragement to wear my glasses whenever I drive.

Can the life of an aging star get any better than this?
