Here is the question of the day: How often do you wash your dogs’ food bowls?
We have four dogs, and Sherry and I wash their bowls after each meal. We feed the dogs twice a day, so that’s eight dog bowls to clean each day.
That’s where I got into trouble. Over the weekend, due to my interest in televised football games, I did a cursory washing of the bowls after the dogs’ breakfast. That means I didn’t use soap, just hot water.
Sherry spotted my shortcut and pointed out one bowl that had faint traces of wet dog food still on the bottom. I claimed I could barely see the spot she was pointing toward.
She said if I was not going to do a good job, she would always clean the bowls from now on.
I sensed danger. Yet, I courageously continued by saying, “How many dog owners clean their dog bowls after every meal anyway?”
When you reach your seventies, these are the kinds of marital battles that arise.
Sherry said, “Every conscientious pet owner cleans their dog bowls after every meal.”
I said, “Oh, I was unaware you had stored that fact in your impressive memory database.”
I got that look that says to retreat. I redid the dog bowls.
It was okay. It was halftime.
