Thank goodness friends don’t die

January 15, 2024 by Don Kuhl

Just this week, another close friend took off on me. Stan Jones, age 88, of Carson City, retired from his worldly duties and moved on to heaven.

I love Stan, and I’m awed by all his accomplishments. Armed with a smile and twinkle in his eye, Stan made Carson City a better place.

The year of 2023 cost me a bunch of good friends. Locally, Brad Bonkoski was another game changer for our little capital, making Carson City a great place to be.

A good high school buddy, Doug Johnson, died earlier this year. Doug made everyone around him happier and wiser.

Jim Prochaska, a world leader in behavior change, also passed this year after helping millions of people lead healthier and more productive lives. Jim supported me, both professionally and personally. I will continue to knock on his door.

Awake in my home office, an hour before the dawning of 2024, I recognized my dear friends really didn’t leave me in 2023. They will live on through all the people they touched and I am one of those lucky guys. I will continue to reach out to them and receive their love and wisdom.
