Great things

July 28, 2020 by Don Kuhl

I’ve always thought great things were about to happen.

Why I came up with that silly notion is beyond me. People around me were practical, even cautious, in predicting the outcomes of various ventures. Not me. I’d take the best case scenario and multiply it by five. Why worry about what might go wrong when the sky was so blue, the possibilities so intoxicating?

This gung-ho optimism got me into deep trouble, personally and financially, over and over again. One failure just seemed to spur me on to the next failure.

Then I got lucky. Things went my way. I stacked boxes of hard-earned experience and climbed out of my hole.

I’m still an unrealistic optimist. However, the opportunity to fail has made me smarter.

So when a young, resolute lady, during this tumultuous time, asked for my opinion and support for an outlandish business idea, I smiled in admiration and said three words:

“Go for it.”
