I have a close friend. Let’s call him Buzz to throw him off.
Buzz bugs me. He knows everyone I know and all of the people those people know. We can’t go into a restaurant or walk in downtown Carson City without hearing, “Hey Buzz, let’s get together soon,” or “Don’t forget the party on Friday, Buzz.”
You might think I have a pinch of jealousy. Darn tooting, I do.
Okay, I know I go a little overboard about all these folks buzzing around Buzz. I think it stems from my mother fawning over my brother, Eddie, while telling me to make a peanut butter sandwich. Or being turned down by three girls I asked to the prom. Or being chosen last in pick-up basketball games at Riverside Park.
I think I’m getting better at accepting Buzz’s magnetic personality. So don’t think I’m trying to play catch-up just because I’m asking you, or anybody, to join me for lunch tomorrow. I’ll pick up the tab and give you a free CONNECTIONS ballpoint pen.
Lesson learned: Don’t judge yourself by the number of acquaintances you have. It’s quality over quantity.
P.S. Am I the only person who has a Buzz in their life? And aren’t you just a little, little bit envious?
